Help Nepal. They need us.

Hoje o assunto é mais sério e muito importante. 

O Nepal é um sonho para mim, está no topo da minha lista de viagens, pelas paisagens, pelo que quem já lá esteve me contou, pela cultura, mas principalmente, pelas pessoas. 

O povo do Nepal é amistoso, genuíno e modesto. Conheço poucas pessoas do Nepal, mas esses poucos que conheço têm uma presença tão pacifica e honesta, que me transmitem sempre uma sensação de paz. 

Agora, o Nepal e o seu povo precisam de ajuda. O terramoto destruiu vidas, momentos, lugares especiais.

É neste momento que cada contribuição, por mais pequena que seja, vale muito. 

Eu já fiz o meu donativo através da UNICEF mas sei que há muitas ONGs através das quais se pode ajudar.

Today the subject is more serious and very important.

Nepal is a dream for me, is at the top of my list of travel, through the landscape, the things that those who have been there told me, through the culture, but mainly by the people.

The Nepalese people are friendly, genuine and modest. I know few people of Nepal, but those few I know have such a peaceful and honest presence that transmit me always a sense of peace.

Now, Nepal and its people need help. The earthquake destroyed lives, moments, special places.

This is where each contribution, however small it may be, is worth a lot.

I've made my donation through UNICEF but I know that there are many NGOs through which you can help.

Objects that changed the world.

Há objectos que estão, desde sempre, presentes nas nossas vidas mas que nos causam um certo fascínio. Talvez por serem emblemáticos, pelas memórias que invocam ou pelo próprio design, existem objectos que mudaram o mundo.

Este é o mote para a nova exposição presente no Roca Lisboa Gallery. Quarenta ícones do design e da criatividade estão expostos neste edifício, só por si magnifico, na Avenida da Liberdade, até Março de 2015.

Objectos como a Vespa Piaggio 125, o Macintosh 514 K, a Polaroid Land Camera Model 95, a caneta BIC e a Remington nº 1 - a primeira máquina de escrever produzida industrialmente, estão presentes nesta exposição e são os objectos que mais curiosidade me despertam, pela influência e importância que [os seus sucessores] ainda hoje têm na minha vida.

Para além das Polaroids que têm um significado especial pois muitas fotos da minha infância são polaroids, também as máquinas de escrever exercem um enorme fascínio sobre mim. 

A escrita, o toque, o peso das teclas e os sons de uma máquina de escrever são especiais para mim. Ainda hoje guardo como relíquia a máquina de escrever dos meus pais. Tenho muita pena que este revolucionário objecto de design se perca no mundo virtual de hoje.

Escrever numa máquina de escrever é simplemente extraordinário. Ainda se lembram?

There are objects that are always been present in our lives but that cause us a certain fascination. Perhaps because they are emblematic, by the memories they invoke or the design itself, there are objects that have changed the world.

This is the motto for the new exhibition of Roca Lisboa Gallery. Forty icons of design and creativity are exposed in this building, by itself magnificent, in Avenida da Liberdade [Lisbon], until March 2015.

Objects such as Piaggio Vespa 125, the Macintosh 514 K, the Land Camera Model Polaroid 95, BIC pen and the Remington # 1 - the first typewriter produced industrially, are present in this exhibition and are those objects that awaken more curiosity to me, by the influence and importance of [their successors] still have in my life.

Beyond the Polaroids that have special meaning because many photos of my childhood are polaroids also typewriters wield enormous fascination for me.

The writing, the touch, the weight of the keys and the sounds of a typewriter are special to me. I still keep as a relic the typewriter from my parents. I'm so sad that this revolutionary design object is lost in the virtual world of today.
