*Uma viagem a Londres [ou como eu descobri que gosto de espinafres].
Cheguei segunda-feira à noite de Londres. Foram quatro dias de pura animação: rever todos os amigos [que já são tantos em Londres] revelou-se uma tarefa quase herculeana - devíamos ter ficado pelo menos mais um dia lá - entre jantares, brunchs, almoços, saídas à noite, tentámos ir a todos os eventos mas foi não possível [ir a um brunch, um almoço de domingo - sunday roast - e um lanche no espaço de quatro horas em cantos opostos da cidade é humanamente impossível, pelo menos se quisermos aproveitar devidamente cada um deles], por isso e por muito que nos custasse, não conseguimos estar com todos os nossos amigos - o que faz com que tenhamos que ir novamente a Londres num próximo, certo?!
Mas dramas à parte, foi uma viagem memorável, o tempo esteve do nosso lado - choveu, esteve frio e vento mas, pelos vistos, nada aproximado do tempo agreste que teve em Portugal - pelo que deu para vaguear pelas ruas como nós gostamos, aproveitar a cidade a pé, conhecer os recantos, as ruelas, as novidades dos bairros que mais gostamos.
Covent Garden é o nosso bairro preferido, está recheado de coisas boas - lojas, restaurantes, guloseimas - e tem um ambiente fantástico.
Assim que chegámos rumámos logo a Covent Garden, até porque foi lá que abriu recentemente o
Shake Shack [os hambúrgueres que já vos tinha falado e com os quais sonhava desde a última vez que os tinha devorado em New York] - tinha que ser a nossa primeira refeição em Londres. Estavam deliciosos! Passámos também pela amorosa loja dos
Ben's Cookies para matarmos saudades das maravilhosas bolachas ao estilo americano com diferentes tipos de chocolate, canela, frutos secos - são tão boas!
Normalmente, quando vou a Londres e sempre que tenho que me deslocar de transportes públicos, opto pelo metro porque é mais prático e mais rápido em hora de ponta mas, desta vez, como a casa do nosso amigo [onde ficámos a dormir] era um pouco longe do metro e tinha uma paragem de autocarro mesmo em frente andámos mais de autocarro e vale a pena - acabamos por ver muitas zonas da cidade que por vezes nos escapam, principalmente se formos no andar de cima [parece sempre que vamos abalroar o carro da frente!]. Gostei.
Nos dias seguintes andámos a passear pelos sítios de sempre - Covent Garden [mais uma vez],
Borough Market, Oxford Street, Camden Town.
No sábado jantámos num restaurante tailandês muito bom - boa comida, bom ambiente num espaço agradável e bem decorado, chama-se
Busaba Eathai e há vários espalhados pela cidade. Vale a pena experimentar o Pandan Chicken e o Jasmine Smoothie - são muito bons.
Antes de virmos embora ainda tivemos tempo para um almoço com uns amigos que trabalham perto de Oxford Circus. Como estávamos com pouco à pressa fomos a um restaurante rápido mas muito bom - o
Vapiano. É self-service e está dividido por zonas - pastas, pizzas, saladas, sobremesas - o que torna o serviço muito mais rápido. Como tinha tomado o pequeno-almoço [inglês] há pouco tempo optei por comer uma salada. Vi na ementa uma que tinha morangos, pinhões e queijo de cabra e delirei, tanto que já nem vi bem os outros ingredientes. Podia ter sido grave! A base da salada era toda de espinafres [só espinafres!] e eu não gosto de espinafres. Ups! Já me estava a preparar para ficar sem almoço mas resolvi experimentar - e foi o melhor que fiz, fiquei a saber que adoro espinafres crus! São maravilhosos - não sei porque é que cá não se come mais espinafres crus - sabem tão bem.
A salada era tão boa que estou a tentar encontrar a receita do molho [à base de framboesas] para depois tentar reproduzir a receita da salada. Se correr bem, faço um post com a receita porque é uma óptima refeição [light] principalmente para os dias de calor que virão em breve!

I arrived last Monday evening from London. There were four days of pure animation: an almost Herculean task reviewing all friends [who are already so many in London] - we should have stayed at least one more day there - from dinners, brunches, lunches, nights out, we tried to go all events but it wasn't possible [going to a brunch, a sunday roast and a coffee in the space of four hours on opposite corners of the city is humanly impossible, at least if we want to properly enjoy each] and so much it cost us, can't be with all our friends - which means we have to go back to London soon, right?!
But drama aside, it was a memorable trip, the weather was on our side - it rained, was cold and windy but, apparently nothing approached the rough time we had in Portugal - so gave to roam the streets as we like, enjoy the city on foot, know the corners, alleys and news of the neighborhoods we love.
Covent Garden - our favourite neighbourhood - is full of good things - shopping, restaurants, delicatessen - and has a fantastic ambience.
Once we arrived we headed to Covent Garden, because it was there that recently opened Shake Shack [the burgers that I had spoken and with which we dreamed since the last time we had eaten in New York] - and had to be our first meal in London. They were delicious! Also spent at the loving Ben's Cookies shop - American style cookies with different types of chocolate, cinnamon, nuts - they are so good!
Normally, when I go to London and whenever I have to move in public transport, I choose subway [tube] because it's more practical and faster during rush hour, but this time, as our friend's house [ where we sleep] was a bit far from the subway and had a bus stop right in front of the house, we choose sometimes the bus - it's nice to see parts of the city that sometimes escape us, especially if we go upstairs on the bus [always seems that we run into the car ahead of us!]. Liked.
In the following days we walked to wander through the same places ever - Covent Garden [again], Borough Market, Oxford Street, Camden Town.
On Saturday we had dinner at a very good Thai restaurant - good food, good ambience in a nice area and well appointed - called Busaba Eathai, there are several around the city. Worth a try the Pandan Chicken and the Jasmine Smoothie - are very good.
Before we return to Portugal, we still had time for a quick lunch with some friends who work near Oxford Circus. Since we were in a rush we choose a quick but very good restaurant - Vapiano. It's self-service and is divided into zones - pastas, pizzas, salads, desserts - which makes the service much faster. How I had taken [English] breakfast recently, I opted for a salad. I saw one that was on the menu with strawberries, pine nuts and goat cheese and raved so much that has not even seen the other ingredients as well. It could have been serious! The base of the salad was all spinach [only spinach!] and I don't like spinach. Ups! I was preparing myself to stay without lunch, but I decided to try it - and it was the best I've done, I learned that I love raw spinach! They are wonderful - do not know why here [in Portugal] we don't eat more raw spinach - they are so tasty!
The salad was so good that I'm trying to find the sauce's recipe [with raspberries] and then I will try to reproduce the salad recipe. If it goes well I make a post with the recipe because it's a great [light] meal, mainly for the hot days!
